Who we are looking for

We are seeking an experienced Head of Construction (with a consultant or client-side background) to join our residential and commercial development team in our Manchester office. You’ll be working on an exciting portfolio of residential, commercial and mixed-use new-build and redevelopment schemes across the North of England. MCR currently has a residential development pipeline of over 11,000 units, with more than 1,500 units already on site or due to commence within the next 12 months.

In this role, you’ll lead our construction team and work closely with Directors to oversee developments ranging from £1m to £250m GDV. You’ll take ownership of each project from start to finish, ensuring all construction, design and financial elements are effectively coordinated and delivered to a high standard.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 10 years’ experience and a strong track record of successfully managing mid- to large-scale developments from conception through to completion.

Wider Responsibilities

As Head of Construction, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of all current and future projects across the North of England, ensuring every scheme is delivered on time, within budget and to the company’s required quality standards. You will oversee and support on-site construction teams across multiple developments, maintaining a strong presence and clear communication throughout. A key part of the role includes proactively managing all aspects of health, safety, environmental performance and quality assurance, ensuring full legal compliance and adherence to company procedures. Regular travel between multiple sites will be required.

Requirements for the role

To succeed in this role, you will have at least 10 years’ experience in the construction industry and demonstrable success delivering projects of £20m+ through the full development cycle, on programme and within budget. You will ideally be degree-educated in a construction-related discipline, with professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB being advantageous but not essential. You will also bring strong and up-to-date knowledge of CDM, construction health and safety, and all relevant statutory requirements, including Building Regulations, the Building Act, Town & Country Planning, Health & Safety legislation and the Disability Discrimination Act.
